About Us

What began with a hand grinder in 1998 has grown to a full-service, state licensed company that processed 1,300 deer during the 2007 hunting season, as well as other big game and livestock. Hursh Meat Processing is owned and operated by Rob and Laura Hursh and our family in Poplar, Wisconsin.

Rob, Laura and our kids (Billy & Brianna) love hunting with bow, rifle and muzzle loader. We hunt deer, antelope, moose, and bear. Laura shot a bear with a bow on her first bear hunt. Rob and our son hunt antelope in Wyoming. Our daughter accompanies Mom and Dad to their tree stands and just completed her hunter’s safety course. She is excited to begin hunting herself. Our family also enjoys fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.

During the busy hunting season everyone helps out in the business including the kids, Rob’s brother Clyde, Laura’s parents, and family friends. We custom cut all big game and livestock and vacuum seal it to maintain optimum freshness. Our retail shop sells cut meats and a full line of sausage and smoked meats.

Rob served in Iraq during the Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2004, during which time Laura kept the business going with the help of family and friends. Rob was in the Army Guard for 16 years with the 724th Engineer Battalion out of Superior, Wisconsin. In 2005 Rob joined the Minnesota Air National Guard with the 148th Fighter Wing. Laura works full time in the field of income qualified housing and serves on numerous community boards and committees that assist people in many ways.

One such program is the Wisconsin State Deer Donation program. Hunters can drop off a deer which will be processed into burger at no cost to the hunter by Hursh Meat Processing and donated to local food shelves.

We know hunting, and how to process game. Our goal is to serve hunters in the northland throughout the hunting season and beyond!
